Disney characters bring adventure to Arena ice

Minnie Mouse takes audiences to other parts of the world during “Disney on Ice: Let’s Celebrate!”

Disney on Ice is bringing “Let’s Celebrate!” to the Spokane Arena.

“It’s just like a huge party on ice,” said skater Alex Maycock. “It just keeps getting bigger and bigger as you watch the show.”

The show starts with Lumiere of “Beauty and the Beast” inviting the members of the audience to “Be Our Guest,” and continues with holiday celebrations from throughout the year, including an unbirthday party with Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Maycock’s favorite part of the show is the Halloween portion, with Jack Skellington of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “a few fun crazy zombies and maybe a villain or two.”

She said it’s a bit of a shame that Spokane will be seeing it a week after the holiday, but “you can relive your Halloween memories.”

In one part of the show, Mickey and Minnie take the audience on some travels.

“Mickey finds a new gadget, but he’s not quite sure how to use it just yet,” Maycock said, so you’re not sure where you’ll end up.

Among the stops: Brazil for Carnival, Japan for the Cherry Blossom Festival, and China for Chinese New Year.

Maycock, 44, has been in “Let’s Celebrate” for about five years. She’s in the ensemble, “so I get to wear a variety of costumes, which is quite fun for me.”

“Let’s Celebrate” came to Spokane in 2010, and Maycock said it’s gotten even better since then.

“The lights are spectacular, the sound is amazing. It’s very upbeat and contemporary,” she said.

Plus, she said, the show has something for everyone: princesses, zombies, Mickey and Minnie.

“No matter what your age is, it just brings the whole family together.”
