Prep roundup: EV boys, Pullman girls claim distict cross country titles

East Valley senior Scott Kopczynski took first place and the Knights’ boys cross country team claimed the team title Saturday at the District 7 2A meet in Clarkston.

Kopczynski completed the 3-mile course in 15 minutes, 16 seconds. His teammate, Chad Stevens, was second in 15:19.

West Valley’s Skylar Ovnicek was third in 15:57.

Pullman was second, followed by West Valley and Cheney.

Pullman edged Cheney for the girls title. East Valley’s Brittany Aquino claimed medalist honors with a 3-mile time of 18:35. West Valley’s McCall Skay was second in 18:48 and Pullman freshman Elyria Kabasenche was third in 19:18.

The top 10 boys and girls placers, along with the top two teams, will advance to the regional meet next Saturday.

• Jack Ammon took first place and the Northwest Christian boys claimed the team title at the District 7 2B meet at Audubon Park in Spokane.

Ammon completed the 5,000-meter course in 16:57.41. Davenport’s Nathan Hopkins was second in 17:00.07 and St. George’s Nahtan Vanos was third in 17:13.

St. George’s took second place, followed by Reardan and Republic.

St. George’s won the girls title. Lind-Ritzville’s Tracy Melville earned medalist honors with a 5,000-meter time of 18:46.74.

The 2B regional meet is next Saturday in Pasco.

Girls soccer

Kendyl Cone scored twice in the first half to help Cheney (4-12, 4-8) beat Pullman (0-15, 0-12) 4-1 in a Great Northern League match in Pullman.

Reba Eaton and Jasmine McCauley also scored for the Blackhawks. Anne Mari Petrino scored the Greyhounds’ lone goal.

• Chelsea Love scored in the 83rd minute to lift East Valley (10-3, 9-3) to a 1-0 overtime win over visiting Clarkston (10-5, 7-5) in a GNL match.

Idaho volleyball

Sandpoint beat Moscow twice (3-1, 3-1) in Sandpoint to earn a berth to the State 4A tournament.
