No. 24 Gonzaga rolls to victory
Shelby Cheslek matched her career-high with 16 points as the No. 24 Gonzaga women cruised past Montana State 89-60 on Friday night in Bozeman.
The Bulldogs (3-0) led 51-18 at halftime, but Montana State (1-2) rallied with a 14-8 run to start the second half, eventually closing to 16 points, 63-47, midway through the period.
Lindsay Stockton scored six of her 10 points in the flurry. Stockton and fellow Gonzaga Prep graduate Hannah Caudill comprise the starting backcourt for Montana State. Caudill scored seven points and she and Stockton both had three assists and two steals. Delany Junkermier, from Mead, scored nine points for the Bobcats.
Lindsay Sherbert added 15 points for Gonzaga, Keani Albanez 14 and Sunny Greinacher added 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 55 percent for the game (33 of 60), including 9 of 19 3-pointers.
The game was Gonzaga’s first this season away from home. Montana State was playing its first nationally ranked team since 2011.
Jasmine Hommes had 11 points to lead the Bobcats, who shot just 39 percent (23 of 59).
Washington State 82, Seattle 62: Gonzaga Prep graduate Tia Presley scored a game-high 25 points, leading the Cougars (3-1) to the nonconference win over the Redhawks (1-2) at Pullman.
The Cougars travel to Virginia on Tuesday before spending the Thanksgiving weekend in Puerto Rico at the San Juan Shootout.
North Idaho 96, Chemeketa 83: Braian Angola-Rodas scored 22 points, Jamaal Robateau added 21 and the Cardinals (6-1) pulled away from the Storm in a nonconference game in Salem.
Angola-Rodas scored 15 of his 22 points from the free-throw line for the Cardinals (6-1).
Jordan King had 16 points and Dujan Piper added 15 as North Idaho won for the fifth straight time.
CCS 83, CCS Alumni 57: Jaida Burgess’s 19 points led five Community Colleges of Spokane women in double figures as CCS rolled over the CCS Alumni 83-57 at Spokane Falls Community College.
