Recovery prospects unclear for Morgan
Tracy Morgan is fighting to recover from a severe brain injury suffered in a highway crash more than five months ago, and it’s unknown if the actor-comedian will be “the Tracy Morgan he once was,” his lawyer said Tuesday.
Benedict Morelli said the former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” star suffered a traumatic brain injury in the June 7 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, in addition to a broken leg, nose and ribs.
“He’s fighting to get better, and if there’s a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he’s going to try to do that,” Morelli said. “But we just don’t know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury.”
Lawyers were in court in New Jersey for a scheduling conference in Morgan’s lawsuit against Wal-Mart. A Wal-Mart truck slammed into the back of a limo van that was carrying Morgan and several friends on their way back from a show in Delaware. One person was killed, and three others were injured, two seriously. Morgan spent several weeks in the hospital and in rehab.
Morgan sued for punitive and compensatory damages.
Firm enters Marley pot brand deal
A U.S. private equity firm has joined the family of late reggae star Bob Marley in hopes of building what it touts as the “world’s first global cannabis brand.”
Seattle-based Privateer Holdings announced Tuesday it has reached a licensing deal with Marley’s heirs to offer marijuana strains, including ones famed in Jamaica, where regulations permit by late 2015. It also plans to sell weed-infused lotions, creams and various accessories.
“My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb,” Miami-based Cedella Marley said in a company statement. She’s the eldest daughter of the music legend who died of cancer in 1981 and is Jamaica’s most iconic figure. Over the years, his estate has authorized deals for a wide range of merchandise.
Canseco tweets plan to sell finger
Former major league baseball player Jose Canseco said he’s selling his detached digit on eBay.
The Canseco finger saga started in October when the former slugger accidentally shot it off. Doctors reattached his finger, but apparently not well enough. Last Thursday while at a poker game, it fell off.
Canseco tweeted Monday night that he’d be selling the finger, along with the .45-caliber Remington gun that shot it off. Canseco hasn’t listed the items for sale as of yet, and didn’t mention a price.
It’s unclear how Canseco plans on listing both items for sale since eBay’s selling policy forbids the sale of both firearms and body parts.
