Apathy won the day
The Nov. 4 election has the media in a frenzy reporting a “landslide” victory for Republican candidates nationwide, calling it a referendum on our president’s performance and programs. The actual mathematics illustrate something else.
A meager one-third of the registered voters cast ballots. The GOP received votes for the major candidates of 55 percent to 58 percent. So, by extrapolation, less than 20 percent of the voter base voted red.
What these results say is that this election was one of the largest manifestations of voter apathy on record. They do not illustrate that anywhere near a majority reject the president’s accomplishments or his performance.
