Football: Clarkston tops Ephrata to earn State 2A berth
One year removed from a 1-9 season, the Clarkston football team has spun that record around, returning to the State 2A tournament for the first time in four years.
AJ Davis connected with Travis Sperry for two second-half touchdowns, and the Bantams (9-1 overall) held off Ephrata 21-14 in a State 2A play-in game at Clarkston High School.
Davis finished with 242 yards passing and three touchdowns, Sperry added 62 yards receiving, and Jacob Shults hauled in Davis’ first touchdown for the Bantams.
Returning to the State 2A tournament for the first time since 2010, Clarkston will host Prosser, at 1 p.m. on Saturday. No stranger to the postseason, Prosser has lost the last three State 2A title games (and four of the last five), winning it all in 2007.
• Playing in frigid temperatures, the Prosser Mustangs advanced to the State 2A tournament for the fifth straight season with a 25-12 play-in victory over the West Valley Eagles at Prosser High School.
Jason Malek and Tevin Duke each had touchdown runs for West Valley (5-5 overall).
