Forecast calls for frigid week, chance of snow

A slight chance of snow is in tonight’s forecast for the Inland Northwest, the National Weather Service said today. What’s more certain is a turn to drier and much colder weather, including overnight lows in the teens starting Tuesday night. The Spokane forecast calls for daytime highs to dip to 26 degrees on Veterans Day and 29 on Wednesday. Overnight lows will plunge to around 14 Tuesday and Wednesday. In Coeur d’Alene, the lows those nights will be around 10 degrees. The temperature should rise to around the freezing level Thursday, with a chance of snow that night. The arrival of cold weather prompted the City of Spokane and the Salvation Army to activate a central warming center for homeless people tonight. The Salvation Army Community Center at 222 E. Indiana Ave. will serve as the community’s single warming center for individuals and families now through Feb. 28 when the temperature falls below 32 degrees. It’s open to single adults as well as families with children. Hours of operation are 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Other homeless shelters throughout Spokane also allow people to get out of the cold.
