Luke Meikle leaves Gonzaga basketball team
Luke Meikle, who saw limited playing time during his freshman season, is leaving the program, Gonzaga announced.
The 6-foot-9, 203-pound Meikle is the second Bulldog to exit the program, joining wing Gerard Coleman. Meikle, a product of Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, would be required to sit out next season if he transfers to another Division I school.
“Luke has decided to pursue other opportunities,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said in a release. “We support his decision and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Meikle played just 60 minutes in 15 appearances last season. He came off the bench with Sam Dower Jr. and Przemek Karnowski in foul trouble to score four points and block two shots in an 8-minute stint against Arkansas at the Maui Invitational.
Meikle did not play in 17 of Gonzaga’s final 21 games. He had the flu for two of those games.
Gonzaga has a deep group of forwards, including Kyle Wiltjer, Angel Nunez and incoming freshman Domantas Sabonis. Kyle Dranginis also filled in at ‘4’ at times last season.
