Ban reflects dated thinking
This letter serves two purposes. The first is to express our admiration for U.S. District Magistrate Judge Candy Dale for striking down Idaho’s gay marriage ban. It took courage and determination to stand up to the prejudice enveloping Idaho, and the reasoning behind striking down the ban was worded beautifully and intelligently.
The second purpose of this letter is to express our disdain for Idaho Gov. Butch Otter and ordained minister Donald Knapp. Otter is the same guy who said at the centennial celebration for Idaho that the people of Idaho are no different today than they were in the 1800s. This is not something to be proud of.
Now, he is vowing to fight to reinstate Idaho’s ban. As the governor of the state, shouldn’t he see that Idaho has much bigger things to worry about? Knapp says he won’t marry any gay couples at his church because he “follows biblical teachings on marriage.”
Would he also stone his children for disobeying him? The Bible says that’s the proper way to treat disobedient children.
You can’t pick and choose what parts of the Bible to follow. All this nonsense is just thinly veiled homophobia.
