Obituary: Hawley, Marjorie
Marge was born September 17, 1922 in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia to George H.W.
Curtis and Violet Puckering Curtis.
She had four brothers, Claude, Roy, Horace, Eric, and a sister Dorothy.
Marge met her future husband, Earl Hawley, while she was working in a restaurant that catered to American servicemen.
He offered to help her wash the dishes while she was cleaning up for the night.
This began a lifelong friendship.
They were married May 13, 1944 in the Church of England with an honor guard of American officers.
Marge came to the United States in 1946 on the bride ship U.S.S.
Mariposa.
She and Earl settled in Miles City, MT where Earl worked as a field executive for the Boy Scouts of America.
A few years later they moved to Laurel, MT.
Marge worked as a retail clerk for JC Penney and Wolds Department store.
Marge was an active volunteer in the Methodist Church, she was on the Order of Rainbow for Girls board, and served as Worthy Matron for the Zidonian Chapter of Eastern Star.
Marge had exceptional talent at sewing, crochet, and knitting, making articles with extremely complex patterns.
She was generous with everything that she had.
She was an enthusiastic cheerleader for anything that her daughters wished to pursue.
In 1983, Marge and Earl moved to Spokane where she was active in the United Methodist Church and the Spokane Valley Hospital Auxiliary.
They were happily married for 59 years until Earl’s passing in 2003.
Marge is survived by her daughters Donna Hawley, Darlene “Dannie” Hawley, and Glenda Lovchik; grandchildren Tracy Saulino, Lisa Baxter, Erica Lovchik, and Ryan Lovchik; great-grandchildren MacKenzie Lovchik, Delaney Lovchik, and Jacob Baxter; brothers Horace Curtis, Eric Curtis, sister Dorothy Clark.
Marge lived her life with joy, grace, and dignity.
We will greatly miss her.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 9, 2014 at 2pm, Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N Raymond Rd.
