Obituary: Snodgrass, Sr. M. Jane (Petronille Marie), Snjm
Age 88
She lived most of her early life in St. Ignatius Parish, graduating from the parish elementary school and from St. Mary’s Academy.
After graduating from High School, Jane worked for the Army in the transportation department before joining the Sisters of the Holy Names in 1945.
Sister Petronille Marie, as she was then known, earned a B.S.
in Education from Marylhurst University and spent the next forty years teaching primary school children, mostly in Spokane and Portland parish schools.
She was loved by children, and by their parents who appreciated the expertise and care she shared with her students.
She still receives visits and cards from former pupils.
Following a year of personal renewal and community service, Sr. Jane volunteered for a ministry in support of the SNJM missions in Mississippi, collecting and shipping clothing and other items for The Treasure Spot, an affordable shopping opportunity for the residents in Jonestown, MI.
When failing strength forced her to retirement in 2003, she continued to be active in praying for the many needs of her religious community and those they serve, her family, and global needs as she became aware of them.
Jane was interested in people and their stories.
Over the years, Sr. Jane has shared her gift of friendship with many.
Less readily shared was her amazing good luck at Bingo!

Sister Jane so loved and appreciated her family.
Her four brothers and two sisters all married and gave her the privilege of being “Aunt” twenty-six times.
Her favorite belonging was the family picture including nearly all of them, and she loved to tell their stories.
She loved the family cookbook, the history through recipes, and shared every picture of each new calendar.
Jane suffered from asthma her entire life, and it was breathing difficulty that contributed to her death.
Her care-givers at Clare Bridge did their best to keep her comfortable.
She died March 17, 2014, in Spokane, Washington.
Sister Jane is survived by her brother Jack and her beloved nieces and nephews, as well as her religious Sisters.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2014, at Convent of the Holy Names.
