Irvine completes sweep of Gonzaga

Beau Bozett’s run-scoring single in the third inning was the only offense Gonzaga could muster as it dropped a 3-1 nonconference baseball decision at UC Irvine on Monday.

The Anteaters (12-3) only outhit the Bulldogs (3-11) 8-7, but came up with more timely hits and picked up a run on a bases-loaded walk to complete the sweep of a three-game series.

Women’s basketball: Washington State sophomore guard Lia Galderia was named to the Pac-12 all-tournament team after helping the Cougars advance to the semifinals.

Galderia broke the tournament scoring record with 75 points in three games.

Men’s basketball: Idaho junior Connor Hill of Post Falls was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his performance in two road wins that lifted UI to the No. 5 seed going into the WAC tournament.

WHL: Defenseman Evan Fiala, the Spokane Chiefs’ first-round selection in the 2012 Bantam draft, has joined the team and will play tonight in Kent against the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder had four goals, 16 points and 86 penalty minutes in 44 games in his just-completed Saskatchewan midget league season.
