Hall of Famer Gwynn dies of oral cancer

Baseball: No matter how early Bud Black tried to get to the park for practice or workouts, he could never arrive before San Diego State teammate Tony Gwynn.

“He was always there. Whenever I was there, he was there,” Black said. “He loved the baseball field.”

Now the Padres manager, Black shared memories of his college teammate Monday before San Diego opened a two-game series in Seattle. Gwynn died Monday of oral cancer. He was 54.

Seahawks welcome EWU’s Bronson

NFL: The Seattle Seahawks have finalized their signing of veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams and added EWU running back Demitrius Bronson to their roster ahead of this week’s minicamp.

Seattle made the roster moves Monday. The Seahawks begin their three-day mandatory minicamp today.

Bronson was an invitee to the Seahawks’ rookie camp last month. He was an honorable all-Big Sky selection his senior season at Eastern Washington.

Seattle released QB Keith Price and DE Kenneth Boatright.
