Chiefs forward Proft signs with German team

Spokane Chiefs forward Carter Proft will not return for his overage season after signing a professional contract with the Kassel Huskies of Germany’s 2nd Bundesliga.

Proft’s signing leaves the Chiefs’ roster with four players who are entering their 20-year-old seasons: forwards Liam Stewart, Marcus Messier and Connor Chartier, and defenseman Reid Gow. Western Hockey League teams are limited to three overage players when the season starts.

The Chiefs acquired Proft in a trade with the Brandon Wheat Kings during the 2011-12 season. Proft had 23 goals and 19 assists in 181 games with Spokane. He also led the team in penalty minutes the last two seasons.
