Obituary: Vasil, Ltc George S.

VASIL, LTC George S. Died Friday, January 24, 2014 at the age of 97.

He was preceded by his wife of 65 years, Virginia (Herbert) Vasil who passed away in 2007.

He is survived by his children: George G. Vasil of Freeland WA, Barbara Herrick of St Cloud MN, Walter Vasil of Duluth MN, Julie Berthoff of Moses Lake WA, and Andrew Vasil of Spokane WA.

He was born in Boston, MA in 1916.

He was a lawyer and graduated cum laude from Northeastern University in Boston in 1941, WWII Veteran and German prison camp survivor, father of six children, devoted husband for 65 years, veteran for over 30 years and retired LTCOL from the Air Force, prior Judge in Duluth MN, active in his church, President of St. Vincent De Paul Charity in Spokane, WA, member of the EX POWs, member of numerous veterans organizations, volunteer that helped the elderly complete their tax returns, and guardian ad litem for elderly in retirement and nursing homes.

He will be missed by his entire family, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be held for George on Thursday, January 30th at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home at 7pm.

A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, January 31st, at St. Thomas More Parish at 10am with Interment following the Mass.
