GSL girls: Lewis and Clark surges past University

The Lewis and Clark and University girls basketball teams played a grind-it-out game Friday.

LC rallied from a 22-19 halftime deficit to knock off the visiting Titans 48-43 in Greater Spokane League play.

Riley Lupfer led LC (10-4, 9-3 GSL) with 17 points. Janieva Bates had 10 points and seven rebounds.

No player reached double-figure scoring for the Titans (5-9, 5-7).

Mead 68, Ferris 42: The Panthers’ size was too much for the smaller Saxons (6-8, 5-7). Delany Junkermier led Mead (10-4, 9-3) with 23 points, three blocked shots and three steals and Sue Winger had 15 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots. Brittney Johnson led Ferris with 15 points.

Gonzaga Prep 69, Rogers 19: The league-leading Bullpups (13-1, 12-0) raced to a 36-11 lead by halftime over the visiting Pirates (0-14, 0-12). Hannah Caudill led G-Prep with 17 points as all 10 Bullpups scored. Otiona Gildon had 10 rebounds.

Central Valley 59, Shadle Park 46: Not even Shyla Carr could keep the visiting Highlanders (4-10, 4-8) in the game, though she tried. Carr had a game-high 29 points as she made seven 3-pointers but it wasn’t enough to stop the Bears (10-4, 9-3). Madison Hovren led CV with 23 points and Mariah Cunningham added 13. At halftime, CV added Kristin Hepton, Crystal Lee and Rikki Jackson to the school’s Wall of Fame.

Mt. Spokane 45, North Central 32: The Wildcats (6-8, 5-7) owned the boards over the smaller Indians (2-12, 2-10). Arianna Newcomb led Mt. Spokane with 15 rebounds and Megan Nilsson had 10. Dallas Flager led the winners with 13 points and four steals. Megan Dean led visiting NC with 11 points. NC played without the league’s second-leading scorer, Brianna King, who was lost to injury Tuesday.
