Obituary: French, Carol
Age 81
Carol was born in Madison, WI., to Norman and Clarice Ramsli.
She lived in various states growing up, eventually landing in San Diego, CA., where she met her handsome sailor, Roy French.
After a short courtship they married in December 1950 and had 45 wonderful years together.
She and Roy raised two children and they also gave many foster children a loving home.
After Roy retired from the Navy they lived in several cities and finally settled in Dubuque, IA., to be near her sister, Jan and family.
While in Dubuque Carol found her calling, working with troubled adolescents at Hillcrest youth residential agency.
Later when they moved to Spokane she continued her much loved career at Excelsior youth residential facility.
Every Christmas she would lovingly sew homemade stockings for the youth at the facilities.
She would never forget birthdays, making sure they always had a gift.
One of her hobbies was sewing and making quilts was her favorite.
She made some very beautiful quilts that family members will always cherish.
Along with busying herself with work and sewing she also volunteered her time with the Tree of Sharing for many years.
Often she would take several names left on the tree and purchase gifts for them never wanting a child to go without a gift.
Carol is survived by her son, Rick French (Diane) and daughter, Diana Klages; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy French; and sisters, Marion Neeley, and Janice Zenner.
