Obituary: Geiger, Herman Joseph

GEIGER, Herman Joseph Born November 14, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and passing on January 5, 2014, Herman lived his life being most proud of his country, his military service and his family.

He was extremely proud to serve in the military and was a Veteran of both World War II (Army) and the Korean Conflict (Air Force).

He was an expert marksman and earned both the Expert Infantry Badge and Expert Marksmanship Medal during his service.

In his early working years, Herman became a Journeyman Machinist while serving an apprenticeship at Baldwin Machine Works in Philadelphia.

He prided himself on hard work and devotion to his Catholic faith.

Despite a great deal of adversity as a young boy, Herman found peace in an amazing work ethic, and a tenacious pursuit and appreciation for education.

He was a voracious reader, studying history and financial matters throughout his life.

On October 20, 1952, he married Phyllis Lorraine Fischbach in Billings, MT after a whirlwind courtship in Spokane, WA while Herman was stationed at Fairchild AFB and Phyllis was a nursing student at Gonzaga College.

After they married, Herman and Phyllis spent a short time in Philadelphia and then returned to Billings to make their permanent home.

In Billings, Herman worked for Burroughs Corporation as a Computer Field Engineer, servicing banks throughout Montana and northern Wyoming.

After retirement, Herman was a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.

Herman is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters: Helen Ankarlo (Dan), Roslyn Hill (Wayne), and Caroline Wyatt (Dave); sons: Richard Geiger (Josephine), Patrick Geiger, Bruce Geiger (Molly), and Steven Geiger; grandchildren: Colleen and Sean Ankarlo, Richelle Geiger, Sara Geiger and Ella Geiger.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10 at Saint Charles Parish in Spokane, Washington.

A Military Interment service will be held at graveside in Billings, Montana at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13.
