Obituary: Osterman, Deane R.

OSTERMAN, Deane R. Deane Robert Osterman, 88, a long time resident of Spokane passed on December 19th, 2013 after a long struggle with cancer.

Born July 3rd, 1925 in Tamarack, Minnesota, he was the first of seven brothers and sisters.

Deane migrated to the northwest with his extended family during the Great Depression.

Deane served in the Pacific as a radioman for the Navy during WWII.

Soon after the war he worked in the airline industry which took him the rest of the way around the world.

After this, he became a regional salesman of electrical equipment for a variety of companies over the course of a career spanning 40 years ultimately retiring from Siemens Corp.

The last years of his life were spent traveling with his close friends (Bob Febus and Laurence Osterman) all around the United States visiting as many casinos and relatives that had spread to the four corners of the country.

This was a source of great joy and adventure.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Foley Osterman, in 2004.

Deane is survived by his daughter Nancy Febus (Bob) of Portland Oregon and son Deane Osterman Jr. (Angela) of Spokane; four grandsons: Jeffrey, Matthew, Dylan and Christian; and one great-grandson: Eli; sister, LaVerne Newstrom of Minnesota, and brother, Jon Osterman of Portland, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews across the country.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for January 10th at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1104 W Heroy, Spokane, WA with a reception to follow at the church.
