Cal’s Gray scores 43 points to sink WSU
Reshanda Gray powered for career highs of 43 points and 16 rebounds Thursday night as 18th-ranked California toppled Washington State 75-68 in overtime in Pac-12 women’s basketball in Berkeley, Calif.
Gray shot 17 of 20 from the floor and the Golden Bears (21-7, 13-4) had three players with at least 13 rebounds. Brittany Boyd finished with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists for the second triple-double in school history.
Shalie Dheensaw led the Cougars (15-14, 9-8) with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Tia Presley added 15 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out.
(5) Stanford 83, Washington 60: Chiney Ogwumike finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds as the Cardinal (27-2, 16-1) eased past the Huskies (16-12, 9-8) at Stanford, Calif.
Big Sky
EWU 67, Northern Colorado 61: Aubrey Ashenfelter scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as the Eagles (15-11, 11-6) clinched a berth to the Big Sky tournament with a win over the visiting Bears (14-13, 8-10).
Lexie Nelson added 12 points, Bethany Montgomery scored 10 off the bench, and Jade Redmon had 10 points, five assists and three steals for the Eagles.
EWU erased an early five-point deficit and took the lead for good on Laura Hughes’ layup midway through the first half. The Bears trailed 50-47 with 3:42 left, but the Eagles shot 13 of 14 from the line down the stretch.
Region 18 tourney
North Idaho 75, Colorado Northwestern 60: Renae Mokrzycki totaled 25 points and 15 rebounds in 27 minutes as the third-seeded Cardinals (22-9) eliminated the No. 6 Spartans (7-22) in a first-round game in Ephraim, Utah.
Mokrzycki shot 9 for 12 from the line and 8 for 19 from the field. Panisesi Taimani added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals, who will play second-seeded Southern Idaho (27-3) at 11 a.m. PST today in the semifinals.
Kendra Martin scored 19 for the Spartans.
