Whitworth tops UPS again

Dustin McConnell scored 19 points and Colton McCargar added 17 as Whitworth continued its dominance over Puget Sound with an 84-74 Northwest Conference win Friday night in Tacoma.

The win was the Pirates’ sixth straight victory and 11th straight over the Loggers.

Whitworth made 10 of 18 3-pointers against one of the conference’s stingiest defenses. Puget Sound came into the game limiting opponents to 39.3 percent shooting from the floor and 28.9 percent from 3-point range.

The Pirates’ Christian Jurlina added 15 points, Kenny Love chipped in 13 and Taylor Farnsworth grabbed 12 rebounds, one shy of his season high.

Rex Nelson led Puget Sound (11-9, 7-4) with 19 points and Erin Barber added 18.

Whitworth (16-4, 10-1) plays at Pacific Lutheran tonight.

CC Spokane 92, Blue Mountain 66: Kwinn Hanson scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to guide the Sasquatch (15-8, 5-4) past the Timberwolves (4-17, 0-9) in an NWAACC game at Spokane Community College.

Hanson made 8 of 12 shots from the floor and all eight of his free-throw attempts.

Chase Haack added 20 points and six rebounds and T.J. Bracey dished out five assists for CCS, which led by 21 points at the half.

Max Mueller led Blue Mountain with 16 points.
