Cougars win 10 events, UI 7 at Idaho Indoor
Washington State had 10 victories and host Idaho seven at the Vandal Indoor Meet Friday night in Moscow, Idaho.
WSU pole vaulter Kristine Felix, the 2013 Pac-12 champion, soared 13 feet, 7 1/4 inches, the second-best mark all-time at WSU.
The Cougars’ Ruby Roberts won the women’s mile in a PR of 4 minutes, 46.48 seconds. Audrey Ketcham had a PR in winning the high jump at 5-7.
Washington State men’s winners turning in PRs included Terrance Chambers in the 200 meters (21.87) and Daniel Zmuda in the 60 hurdles (8.01).
Idaho’s Jesse Villines took the men’s 60 with a PR of 6.95 – his first career sub-7-second mark over that distance. Villines also ran in the first-place 4x400m relay that posted a time of 3:12.84.
Idaho’s Andrey Levkiv took the shot put with a career-best 56-5 3/4. The Vandals’ Karlene Hurrel won the women’s 60 (7.65) and 200 (24.42).
Baseball
Thomas Waken hit a three-run home run as Whitworth scored six times in the fourth inning and beat Pomona-Pitzer 12-7 in a season opener in Claremont, Calif.
It was the Pirates’ first season-opening win since 2008.
Josh Davis added a three-run double with two outs in the seventh. Davis finished with four runs batted in.
The Pirates and Sagehens will play a doubleheader today.
