GSL girls: CV responds with win over Saxons

The Central Valley girls basketball team had a nice bounce-back win Thursday.

The Bears jumped out to a 36-18 lead in the first half and kept adding to it as they handled the Ferris Saxons 73-40 in a Greater Spokane League game at Ferris.

CV lost Tuesday at Lewis and Clark.

Madison Hovren led the Bears (13-5 overall, 12-4 league) with 25 points and 13 rebounds and Mariah Cunningham added 18 points.

Brittney Johnson led Ferris (9-9, 8-8) with 15 points and Michele Strauss had 11.

Gonzaga Prep 66, Mt. Spokane 50: The league champion Bullpups (17-1, 16-0) cruised past the visiting Wildcats (7-11, 6-10).

Laura Stockton led the Bullpups with 19 points, Oona Harrington had 12 and Otiona Gildon added 10 with nine rebounds.

Dallas Flager led Mt. Spokane with 19 points and Ashlee Pedersen added 13.

Shadle Park 77, Rogers 48: The host Highlanders (7-11, 7-9) followed up a 37-26 outburst in the first half by outscoring the Pirates (0-18, 0-16) 40-22 in the final two quarters.

Winter Hayes led Shadle with 20 points and eight rebounds, Shalise Hicks had 14 points and Amanda Konynenbelt added 11.

Winifred Tupailera had 10 for Rogers.

Mead 57, University 45: The Panthers (13-5, 12-4) opened a lead and continue the pace throughout in the win over the visiting Titans (5-13, 5-11).

Delany Junkermier led Mead with 19 points, Sue Winger had 14 and Coreen Labish added 12 with seven rebounds.

Shelby Rotchford and Emma Kennedy had 12 points each for U-Hi.
