John Rodgers, father of EWU’s Jake Rodgers, condition remains critical

From Staff Reports

John Rodgers, the father of Eastern Washington offensive lineman Jake Rodgers, was still in critical condition at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center’s ICU cardio unit, it was confirmed Sunday night.

The elder Rodgers was stricken in the Roos Field stands at EWU during the Eagles’ FCS playoff game Saturday afternoon against Illinois State.

Jake Rodgers offered the following post on his Facebook page Sunday afternoon:

“I would just like to take a moment to thank everyone for the tremendous amounts of support for my family and more importantly my dad. It has been truly incredible to see the outpouring of prayers and well wishes and I could not be more thankful.

“I especially want to thank the people in the stands and emergency responders for acting so quickly and taking such good care of my father and probably saving his life. That is a feat I will never be able to be grateful enough for.

“If there is one positive to be taken out of this it is that my family and I are so fortunate to be surrounded by an amazing support group of extended family, friends, and community members who have been nothing but helpful in this difficult time. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
