Obituary: Townsend, Alta Carol

Age 87

TOWNSEND, Alta Carol (Age 87) Alta Carol Townsend was born October 17, 1927 to Horace and Alta Bray in Kettle Falls, Washington.

She passed November 25, 2014 due to complications from viral pneumonia and kidney failure.

Carol, as she was known, moved to Spokane as a young child and was a longtime Spokane resident.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, worked serveral jobs after graduating from high school and met and married, Warren Wallace Miller (deceased) in 1948.

Her marriage to Warren gave her a daughter, Christina and a son, Michael.

After Carol and Warren divorced, she met and married Richard (Dick) James Townsend and gained a step-daughter, Becky and a step-son, Rick.

Job considerations caused Carol, Dick, Christina and Michael to move to Miles City, Montana.

It was in Miles City that Carol began her long career in government service with the Social Security Administration.

After serveral years in Miles City, job requirements took Carol and Dick to Billings, Montana and then on to San Jose, California.

They lived in the Bay Area for several years until they retired, she from the Social Security Administration and Dick from Ford Aerospace.

They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho for their idyllic retirement where they have lived for many years.

Carol was active for many years in the 4 C’s Choral singing group.

She also enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dick; her daughter, Christina (Mark) and granddaughter, Elisabeth (Chris); her son, Michael (Linda) and her granddaughter, Jordan; her step-daughter, Becky (Mike) and their three sons, Joseph, Joshua and Michael; and her step-son, Rick (Tari) and their children, Jason, Chris and Melanie.

She is also survivied by numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition, she is survived by her favorite pinochle partners, her sister-in-law, Donna Libengood and her husband, Paul.

Carol will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
