Bothell holds off Chiawana for title

TACOMA– Bothell quarterback Ross Bowers threw for 216 yards and a touchdown, running back Caleb Meyer rushed for 105 yards and a score and the Cougars outlasted Chiawana 24-14 in the State 4A championship football game Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.

With the win, Bothell (14-0) denied Chiawana of Pasco a chance to win back-to-back state titles after the school won it in 2013.

Bowers, who has committed to California, completed 17 of 19 passes (89.5 percent), as Bothell racked up 391 total yards to Chiawana’s 279.

Bothell never trailed.

2A: Sedro-Woolley 42, Lynden 13: The Cubs (13-1) intercepted five passes and rushed for 321 yards in a 42-13 win over the Lions (12-2), who were seeking their fourth consecutive state championship.

1B: Neah Bay 56, Liberty Christian 38: Cole Svec rushed for 159 yards and had an 88-yard kickoff return touchdown and Chris Martinez added 133 yards and four scores as the Red Devils cruised past the Patriots.

It marked the Red Devils’ second straight championship and third in the last four years in their eight-man football classification.

The Red Devils only attempted three passes.

Liberty Christian quarterback John Lesser rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns but threw three interceptions.
