Age 91

DISCH, Philip A.

(Age 91) Our Dad and Grandpa, Philip A. Disch, struck a homerun and went to join our Mom and Grandma, Sibyl in Heaven just five months after she passed away.

Dad was born on March 29, 1923 in Judea, Wisconsin and died on August 13, 2014 at Hospice House North in Spokane, Washington.

Dad and Mom resided at Rockwood Lane here in Spokane for the last 13 years.

Dad was number six in a family of ten children and grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin.

He had seven brothers and two sisters.

They all attended St. Patrick’s School in Janesville and Dad had many lifelong friends from those years at St. Pat’s.

He was a World War II Vet and proudly served in the US Army where he was stationed in New Caledonia Island in the South Pacific.

He was one of six brothers proudly serving in the war.

After the War, Dad went to college and met and married our Mom, Sibyl.

They were together for 67 years and married for 65 years.

He was one of the first members of his family to earn a college degree.

He started his career as an educator in McHenry, IL and then moved his family to Highland (San Bernardino Area), California where Dad continued to be an educator for over 30 years doing everything from elementary school to high school.

He was also an elected commissioner of the East San Bernardino County Water Board for more than 30 years.

Their multimillion dollar water treatment plant is named for him.

Dad is survived by his daughters, Susan and Michelle, his brother, Art, and sister, Mary, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Sibyl, his daughter, Mary Jo, his parents, Hank and Alice, one sister and five brothers.

A funeral mass and celebration of Dad’s life will be on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church which is located at 221 E. Rockwood Blvd.

A reception will immediately follow at Rockwood Lane which is located directly behind Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
