Obituary: Sweet, Theodore David “Ted”

Age 77

SWEET, Theodore David “Ted” (Age 77) “The Good Airman” Of Spokane, ended his two year battle with cancer on Saturday, August 9th, 2014, surrounded by his family at home.

Ted was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 22nd, 1937, to Delores and Robert Sweet.

At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Radio Operator, and later a Contract Specialist.

He retired from the Air Force with Honorable Discharge as a Master Sergeant in 1977.

He then continued his career as a civilian Contract Specialist for the Department of Defense, eventually becoming Director of Contract Operations in 1983.

Ted finally retired for good in 1998.

Ted met the love of his Iife, Fumiko Ishizuka, in Tokyo, Japan and they wed in 1957.

They were married for 57 years.

He is survived by Fumiko and their three children, sons, Michael (Ann) Sweet, David (Lori) Sweet, and daughter, Bonnie (Greg) Blash.

Ted is also survived by his sister Kathy (Dan) Clancy, six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Delores, sister Pat, and brother Larry.

Ted loved watching sumo wrestling and playing golf.

He also enjoyed reading suspense novels and hunting down the best bargains.

He was always there to give advice and try his hand at building projects.

Ted will be laid to rest at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 West Espanola Road in Medical Lake on Monday, August 18th at 10:30 am.

The family will then receive friends after the ceremony at 4:00 pm at 5224 N. Ormond in Otis Orchards.
