Robber angry he only got pizza

A man convicted of robbing a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint last December helped police find his alleged accomplice after expressing frustration that he only got pizza from the crime. Tredone Winborne, 19, told police he was angry that he got no money – only pizza and jail time - while Eugene McVay, allegedly the other robber, wasn’t held accountable after getting the money and hatching the plan to rob a Domino’s delivery driver, according to court documents. Private surveillance footage shows that about midnight on Dec. 23, 2013, Scott Hatfield made a delivery of $84 in pizza to a home on the 3400 block of East Marietta Avenue. Waiting on the front porch of the home were the two men who robbed him at gunpoint, taking the food and beverages, an estimated $100 in Domino’s cash and $60 from Hatfield’s personal wallet. Hatfield, 21, said in an interview Friday that they asked for his phone too, but he told them they couldn’t have it. As one of the suspects ran towards his car, Hatfield locked it with his key ring. One of the men then slashed his car tire, Hatfield said. “I drove home with a flat tire,” Hatfield said. Hatfield said for the week after the robbery he was nervous about making deliveries, but he still works at the same Domino’s location, 3031 E. Mission Ave., as a driver. He said he’s relieved police found the second alleged robber. The home where the robbery occurred was vacant, and police say the homeowner was unaware it was used as the address for delivery, court documents say. Police have recently recovered the 9mm handgun believed to be used by McVay in the robbery, which police believe he hid at his girlfriend’s house. Hatfield said the gun was brandished, but never directly pointed at him. Winborne was arrested shortly after the incident at a residence in the 3200 block of East Carlisle, according to a news release. He pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery and possession of a stolen firearm, and was given a sentence of 12-plus months in prison and 12 months probation. Police believe McVay’s girlfriend drove the robbers away from the home. McVay previously bragged about Winborne “not giving me up,” according to a witness.
