Vandals eclipse 1,000 offensive yards at 2nd scrimmage

MOSCOW, Idaho – Redshirt freshman Matt Linehan threw for 401 yards and eight touchdowns and Idaho’s offense piled up 1,026 yards and 14 TDs Friday during the Vandals’ second scrimmage of the spring at the Kibbie Dome.

Linehan connected on 33 of 52 passes and sophomore Chad Chalich completed 18 of 32 for 304 yards and three TDs.

Senior Dezmon Epps led receivers with 17 catches for 218 yards. Sophomore Deon Watson had nine receptions for 170 yards and sophomore Richard Montgomery, who splits time at running back, had four for 104.

Senior Kristoffer Olugbode guided the running game with 23 carries for 200 yards. Senior Jerrel Brown had 30 carries for 90 yards.

Newcomer Irving Steele had 18 tackles from his linebacker spot. Junior cornerback Jayshawn Jordan added 18 tackles and sophomore Zach Cable had three sacks and four tackles for loss.

“I thought the second half was pretty even,” Vandals coach Paul Petrino said. “That’s what you want to see. We made some strides. They’re definitely improved.”
