Obituary: Swanger, Larry E.

SWANGER, Larry E. 1939 - 2014 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grand- father, uncle, and friend passed quietly away in the care of his family after suffering from dementia.

Born in Ione, Washington to Ray and Jane Swanger.

Larry grew up in Ione as the youngest of six children.

After graduating from Ione HS in 1959, Larry attended the University of Montana until an injury ended his football scholarship.

Larry married Karen Mathis, June 18, 1961.

After being drafted in the fall, Larry enlisted in the Air force, serving eight years and three tours of duty in Vietnam.

Larry entered the trucking industry, trucking with his wife Karen, for eighteen years prior to retirement.

Larry enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping, and spending time with close friends and family.

Larry’s gentle kindness, laughter, and warm hugs will live on in the hearts of all those he touched.

Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen Swanger, his three children, Sheryl (Mike) Terris, Steven (Lorrie) Swanger, and Scott (Kaaryn) Swanger, nine grandchildren, Kayla (Collin), Kami, Josh (Katie), Kelsey (Tony), Zach, Zeth, Zane, Jake, and Alli, and one great- granddaughter Emma, a brother Lloyd (Alice) Swanger, numerous nieces and nephews.

A special “thank you” to Horizon Hospice and the Fairwood Memory Care Staff.

Services will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Friday, April 11th, at 1:00 PM.
