GU’s Kim medalist again

Alice Kim took home medalist honors for the second straight week and the Gonzaga Bulldogs women earned their second tournament team title of the spring – winning The Gold Rush in Yorba Linda, Calif., on Tuesday.

Kim shot a final-round 75 to finish at 215 – a Gold Rush record and two strokes clear of teammate Ciera Min and Long Beach State’s Rochelle Chan.

Kim also won the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., last week.

The Bulldogs finished at 893, four strokes in front of runner-up Long Beach State, the host school.

The Bulldogs begin the West Coast Conference Championship on Monday at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash.

• Sean Walsh carded a final-round 74 to tie the school record with a three-round 207 total at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic men’s tournament at the Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Walsh, who finished in a tie for eighth place, helped guide Gonzaga (860) to an eighth-place showing.

Oklahoma (831) won the team title, finishing seven strokes clear of both BYU and Colorado.

Gonzaga’s James Fahy closed with a 73 and tied for 17th place with a 212 total.

Track and field

Eastern Washington Eagles junior hammer thrower Jordan Arakawa claimed his second consecutive Big Sky Conference field athlete of the week honor for the week of April 8.

Arakawa threw the hammer 212 feet, 1 inch to finish second at the Stanford Invitational.

It was Arakawa’s fifth athlete of the week award outdoors and the sixth of this career.
