Grammar issue profound
I would like to thank Ralph Laws from Cheney for his observation (March 29) concerning the use of “snuck” instead of “sneaked” among public figures.
Like Laws, I prefer “sneaked,” but for a different reason. I think the rule of adding an “ed” to the end of a word to indicate the past tense is easier to learn and understand than changing a vowel in the middle of the word.
Many talented foreigners could learn and understand English quicker if we kept English simple. Foreigners could publish in and subscribe to our journals easier if we simplified the language. Foreigners could participate and contribute to our economy in general if English grammar was easier.
This is not a trivial subject because it has far-reaching implications for our society.
