Obituary: Poulin, Michael

Age 64

POULIN, Michael Born 09-11-49 in Spokane to Vera (Wakeley) and Eugene Poulin.

Mike lived most of his life in Spokane.

He grew up with his brother Genie and lots of cousins in Hillyard.

He graduated from Rogers High School in 1969.

After high school, he joined the Army Reserves 6th Army 396th Combat Support Hospital.

He worked at the Hoyt Hotel in Portland in 1967 and the Ridpath Hotel in Spokane, from 1969 to 1986.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Obert in 1972.

They have two children, Marc and Amy.

Diagnosed at age 20 with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Mike continued to work until he was 36, when physically he could not manage it anymore.

Mike had an attitude and sense of humor that kept everyone around him laughing and loving him all the more for it.

He was able to remain in his own home because of his children’s devotion to caring for him.

Visiting him was always a joy, and an interesting conversation that left one with a sense of gratitude for life as we have it.

Although Mike’s life was difficult, he never complained and just seemed to be happy every day to have time here with us.

His family loved him very much, especially his devoted children who enjoyed spending time with him and watching TV, especially “Outdoorsman” with Buck McNeely and “Mountain Men”.

Our Dad represented the very best of humanity and was utterly the most courageous person we’ve ever known.

On August 31, 2013 he opened the door and walked through it to a new freedom.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother.

We will certainly miss him so much, but wish him happy trails and happy reunions, of which there will be many.

A special thanks to all of the doctors and nurses at Deaconess Wound Clinic, and prior to that, Sacred Heart Wound Center.

Also to Riverview Care Center, whose care and compassion was very much appreciated.

There will be a funeral service Friday, September 6, 2013 at 1 pm at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home, 1315 N. Pines, Spokane Valley with a reception to follow.
