Chiefs lose to last-place Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The Spokane Chiefs have slipped from being the top team in the Western Hockey League to being tied for third place in the U.S. Division in 12 days.

Aspen Sterzer scored the winner at 10:21 of the third period Wednesday as Western Conference last-place Kamloops (5-10-1-0) edged the Chiefs 5-4.

Spokane (11-5-0-0, 22 points) lost for the third time in four outings. The Chiefs are three points behind Portland, two behind Seattle and even with Everett in the division.

Spokane’s Adam Helewka scored twice for his second career multigoal game. Mitch Holmberg has scored in every game after his league-high 18th goal, which tied the game at 3 with 1 second left in the second frame.
