Obituary: Kilgore, Katherine Ann

Age 61

KILGORE, Katherine Ann (Age 61) Katherine Ann Kilgore (Kathy, Katie, Kate) was born July 21, 1952, in Spokane Washington, to Norman and Dorothy Kilgore.

She was the third of their eight children.

As the only “lefty” in the family, she always had a corner chair at the table, but never a left-handed mitt or pair of scissors.

On September 22, 2013, at the age of 61, Jesus called her home to heaven.

She attended St. Aloysius and Assumption Catholic schools, Salk Jr. High, and Shadle Park High schools, graduating in 1970.

She began college courses at Kinman Business University and Fort Wright College, then completed her undergraduate degree in Recreation at Central Washington University in 1975.

Graduate studies at Pacific Lutheran University culminated in a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1977.

Kathy worked as a Director of Student Activities at colleges in Texas and North Dakota, California, Oregon and Washington.

In 1986, she settled in Seattle, where she found her true niche as a Vocational Rehabilitation case Manager, a career she had until illness sidelined her in April of 2013.

Kathy loved her family, most especially her many nieces and nephews.

She treasured her childhood memories at Bead Lake.

She was a collector of many diverse things: Longaberger baskets, Pez , Legos, Starbucks cards, and all things Scottish, even though she’s Irish.

Kathy loved Facebook, discussing current events, and laughing and sharing good food and drink with friends.

She was an extravagantly generous gift giver, loved others unconditionally, and was a champion for the underdog and those sad of heart.

Kathy leaves behind her dad Norm, step-mom Loretta, siblings Kevin (Dianna), Mary (Jack), Mike (Cathy), Megan (Tom), Jeff (Julie), Jenny (Brian), and Matt (Peggy).

She was the self-described “World’s Greatest Aunt” to Kasey, Graham, Micah, Samantha, Sean, Kelly, Sara, Eli, David, Annie, Matt, Kevin, Tim, Hannah, Jason, Justin, Brande, Jad, Bailey, Olivia, Tim, Brittany, Brycen, Berkley, and over 30 special great nieces and nephews.

Her mom Dorothy predeceased her in 2008, as well as her nephew Eli in 1997.

A Seattle memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 19th, 3pm, at Bethany Community Church, 8023 Green Lake Dr N, Seattle, WA.

A Spokane memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 2nd, at 1pm, Summit Ridge Christian Fellowship, 1801 E 29th Ave, Spokane, WA.
