Tigers’ Wendt wins two events
The Timberlake boys and Kellogg girls are both in second place and trail Sugar-Salem after the first day of the Idaho 3A State Championships at Middleton High School on Friday in Middleton.
The Kellogg boys – tied with Payette for sixth place – were led by Garret Wendt. He won the long jump, reaching a distance of 20 feet, 10 inches, and was the high jump champion at 6-0.
Timberlake’s top finisher after the first day was Preston Rhodes, who was third in the pole vault (12-6).
The Kellogg girls were led by Lauren Cooper, who won the shot put (41-7 1/2) and was third in the discus (121-9).
The Wildcats’ Taylor Sheppard was second in the high jump at 5-2 and her teammate, Jasmine James, was third at 5-0.
Priest River is 10th, Bonners Ferry is 11th and Timberlake is tied for 14th.

The Coeur d’Alene Charter boys are in 10th place and St. Maries is tied for 12th after the first day of competition in the 2A meet at Middleton High School.
St. Maries’ Logan Feasline took fourth place in the discus, reaching a distance of 150-1.

Kootenai’s Katey Mae McInturff won the pole vault and the Warriors girls are in fourth place at the 1A meet, also at Middleton High School.
McInturff reached a height of 9-7 in the pole vault, 10 inches better than the second-place finisher.
David Shadley led the Kootenai boys with a sixth-place finish in the 3,200-meter run. He finished in 10 minutes, 40.35 seconds.
