Sunday brings warmest Bloomsday in 9 years

If the weatherman is correct, Sunday will be Spokane’s warmest Bloomsday in at least nine years. Forecasters are calling for a high of 77 degrees. The last time the Bloomsday road run was so warm was in 2004 when the 2 p.m. temperature climbed to 74 degrees. Prior to that, the warmest Bloomsday was in 1992 when the 2 p.m. temperature was 75. A strong ridge of higher air pressure has settled over the Pacific Northwest, bringing what forecasters expect to be an extended period of warm weather and sunshine. Highs on Monday and Tuesday are expected to reach the lower 80s before an onshore flow cools temperatures back to the 70s by Wednesday. Bloomsday’s warmest years came during the inaugural run in 1977 and three years later in 1980. In both of those years, the 2 p.m. temperature reached 78. Forecasters expect a 2 p.m. temperature of 76 on Sunday. Some of the coldest Bloomsday runs came in 1999 and 2002 when the 2 p.m. temperature only made it to 43 degrees.
