Obituary: Gariepy, Denise Marie
She was born November 17, 1957 in Spokane to Robert Joseph and Janet Rae (Joinson) Gariepy Jr. She grew up in Spokane and graduated from Joel E. Ferris High School in 1976.
She received a Bachelors degree in Speech Therapy from Washington State University in 1981 and a Masters degree in Speech Therapy from Eastern Washington University in 1984.
She loved providing speech therapy to children in the Lewistown, MT, Colville, WA, Glendale, AZ and Tri-Cities, WA school districts.
She was a coach for Special Olympics for many years.
She enjoyed traveling and doing crafts like cross stitching, quilting, sewing and calligraphy.
She enjoyed sending cards and letters filled with confetti to family and friends for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and many other occasions.
She sang in the Canterbury Bells in high school and loved singing and listening to music.
She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners, and followed college sports as well.
Denise is survived by her father Robert J. Gariepy Jr. of Spokane; sister Michele Dryden of Dallas, TX; brothers Robert J. Gariepy III and Charles Gariepy of Spokane; nieces and nephews Jennifer Marie Dryden Range, Christina Kern, Tyler Uhl, Aubrey Miller, Morgan Gariepy, Andrew Gariepy and Kayla Gariepy; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews in Spokane and Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her mother Janet Rae Joinson, sister Lynette Uhl and nephew Steven Douglas Dryden.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Saturday April 6, 2013 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 3327 S. Perry Street.
