St. Pierre defends his belt at UFC 158
After years of anticipation and months of verbal sparring, Nick Diaz is finally getting his shot at UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (at left in photo). St. Pierre (23-2) is on home turf for his title defense against the mercurial Diaz (27-8) at Montreal’s Bell Centre tonight in UFC 158, headlining a card stacked with key welterweight bouts. Johny Hendricks also faces Carlos Condit, while Jake Ellenberger meets Nate Marquardt. Diaz (right) sought a fight with St. Pierre for years, but often seemed determined to sabotage himself. UFC president Dana White (center) scrapped their fight scheduled for October 2011 after Diaz failed to show up for promotional appearances for the bout, and St. Pierre’s knee injury scrubbed their next expected meeting in early 2012. – Associated Press
