Sani leads Wildcats over Pirates

Kyle Sani had three hits, including a solo home run, and drove in three runs to power the Central Washington Wildcats (8-9) to a 7-2 nonconference win over the Whitworth Pirates (5-6-1) on Tuesday in Ellensburg, Wash.

Josh Davis had three hits and drove in both runs for Whitworth.

Women’s golf

The Washington State Cougars finished in eighth place at the Bruin Wave Invitational in Tarzana, Calif.

Top-ranked USC won the tourney, while UCLA finished two strokes back in second.

Mallory Kent topped the Cougars – tying for 27th place. USC’s Annie Park was the medalist.

• The Idaho Vandals placed 12th at the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif.

Stanford, led by medalist Mariah Stackhouse’s 4-under-par 212, won the tourney.

Leilanie Kim led the Vandals with a 234 total – tying her for 41st.

Awards

Eastern Washington’s Joseph Cohen was named the Big Sky Conference men’s player of the week in tennis for the second time this season.
