Obituary: Hoover, Richard E. “Dick”
Age 85
He was born on November 15, 1927 in Spokane, WA to Emanuel and Alice (Smith) Hoover.
Dick was preceded in death by Donna, his wife of 62 years, and his older brother, Herbert.
Dick grew up in Spokane, attending Libby Junior High and Rogers High School.
After high school he joined the Marine Corps with childhood friend, Tom Walsh.
When World War II ended he was transferred to the Navy where he was later honorably discharged.
After military service he received his BA from Gonzaga University and during his working career he earned his Masters Degree from GU.
His career varied, starting out as a radio news announcer in Okanagan, WA; he then accepted a job working as an assistant to Congressman Walt Horan in Washington D.C.; after two years he returned to Spokane to become the News Director of KREM Television; he then became a Journalism Professor at Eastern Washington University and finished his working career in Public Relations.
Dick said he loved all of his jobs, but he found it incredible that someone was willing to pay him to talk on the radio.
Dick married Donna Lee Paullin on September 1, 1950 at the Millwood Presbyterian Church.
Dick was a resident of Liberty Lake, WA for the past 44 years.
His hobbies included golf, tennis, and playing the guitar and piano.
Dick is survived by daughter, Linda Uphus (Mike); son, Jeff Hoover (Janice); daughter, Martha Gehrett (Scott); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to the care givers that helped our Dad during his final days.
The Memorial Service will be held at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Road in the Spokane Valley at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 12, 2013.
