Obituary: Tremblay, Joseph

Age 93

TREMBLAY, Joseph 07/12/1920 - 12/17/2013 Joe was born to Daniel Tremblay and Mary Cleary on July 12, 1920 in Shell River Sask.

Joe’s dad moved to Montana so he could earn enough money to send for his wife and six kids.

The family immigrated to the U.S. in 1923.

Joe’s dad then went to work for Inland Empire Paper Co. in Millwood, WA.

They settled in a tiny house across from Millwood Park.

Speaking only French, the kids soon picked up English from the neighbor children.

The family moved to Pasadena Park so they could have a garden and raise animals.

During the summers the kids picked strawberries and cucumbers to help support the family.

Joe graduated from West Valley High School.

He then worked for I. E.P.

to earn enough money to attend Gonzaga University.

The war interrupted his college years.

He served in the coast guard from 1942 until 1945.

He then completed his education, graduating from Gonzaga University with a degree in philosophy.

He began his teaching career in Palouse, Washington and retired from North Central High School in 1985.

He was a much loved teacher who made a great impact on his students.

Joe loved to watch the Mariners, Seahawks and, of course, his Gonzaga basketball.

He was a longtime supporter of Gonzaga University and various charities.

He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel; mother, Mary; and siblings: Ed, Joseph A. O., Paul, and sister, Laurana.

He is survived by his loving sister, Marianne.

Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his loss.

The family would like to thank all of his wonderful caregivers.

A special thanks to Vivian who was a great friend and caregiver.

There will be a Vigil Service on Thursday, December 19th at 7 pm at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 20th at 11 am at Mary Queen Parish, 3423 E. Carlisle Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Gonzaga University (Univ.

Relations Dept./Donations, 502 East Boone Avenue, Spokane, WA 99258-0102) or Hospice of Spokane (PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210).
