Obituary: Mcconnell, Paul W.

Age 88

McCONNELL, Paul W. August 26, 1925 - August 15, 2013 Born in Spokane, Washington to Wayne and Naomi McConnell, Paul lived his entire life here.

He attended Logan and Longfellow grade schools and graduated from Roger’s High School in 1943.

Paul was a Navy photographer for three years during WWII, serving in the South Pacific.

After the war he worked at Payless Drug, where he met Shirley Gallagher, became engaged, and married in May of 1947.

Later that year he began working for Pacific Northwest Bell.

He worked for the phone company for 36 years before retiring.

Paul was active in Telephone Pioneers of America for many years, holding many offices, including Chapter President.

He was a long time member of Eagles Lodge and Downriver Men’s Golf Club.

For years he and Shirley worked at Deaconess Hospital testing hearing of newborns.

He is survived by his children: Paula Runyan, Nancy Sauer (husband Rick) and Gary McConnell (wife Kathy); eight grandchildren: Stacie Bear, Chris Runyan, Scott Sauer, Brian Sauer, Amy Dryden, Matt Sauer, Eric McConnell and Dan McConnell; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, his brother John, and his wife Shirley.

A funeral service for Paul will be held Friday, August 23 at 2pm at Heritage Funeral Home followed by interment at Fairmount Memorial Park.
