Obituary: Hoyt, Bernice
Age 93
Bernice was born in Vinton, Virginia to James and Elizabeth Wilks on January 11, 1920.
She was the ninth child of ten and lived in Virginia with her family until she moved to Washington and graduated from Tekoa High School.
Just after high school she married and gave birth to Richard Dale in Philadelphia, PA where she worked as a shoe model and spent a lot of time traveling as a young adult.
She later then worked for IBM as they put her through school to become a computer programmer.
Later she married and moved to Ohio where she gave birth to Carol Ann.
She continued her career for the US government as a programmer at Hanford.
She was a buyer for the Crescent Department Store among other jobs.
After marrying Charles Hoyt she moved Salt Lake City to work for the Board of Education as a programmer until 1985 when she retired.
After retiring she and Charles moved to Spokane to be closer to their family.
Some of her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, gardening and fishing.
Bernice is survived by her two children, Richard D. Brown of Cheney, WA, and Carol Ann Batten of Spokane, WA and her sister Moreine Johnson of FL.
She is also survived by four grandchildren: Leeann Barton (Randy), Tom Brown (Tammy), Chris Batten (Ivy), Jessica Freeman (Karl), 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Claire, Louie, Mary, Wilbur, Al, Myrtle, Roy, and Bill as well as grandsons Larry and Richard Scott Brown and Vickie Brown (like a daughter).
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 26th at 10:00AM at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224.
Inurnment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens, 5909 S. Cheney Spokane Road.
