Obituary: Pillars, Laura Marie
Age 78
She passed away at her home in Colfax, WA.
Laura was born to Theodore and Marie Horn on December 17, 1934 in Sumas, WA.
She graduated from Nooksack Valley High School.
Laura married her pen pal Elbert Pillers on December 19, 1953 in Sumas, WA.
Laura, Elbert and their two children moved to Sprague, WA and took over publishing “The Sprague Advocate” on June 1, 1959, eventually publishing eight different weekly newspapers and operating a commercial printing business.
Laura served as the City Clerk for the City of Sprague for several years in addition to working in the printing business.
The couple moved their home and printing operation from Sprague to Palouse, WA in 1974 and established Precision Printing.
The couple also published an annual antique directory that covered four states called “The Best of the Pacific Northwest Antique Shops”.
Laura and Elbert retired from Precision Printing in 1996.
In her spare time Laura authored and published several small volumes of true stories with the title of “Sharing and Caring”.
Laura also enjoyed caring for her flower gardens, creating puzzles and having a snack of ice cream.
In 2001, Elbert and Laura moved to Hill-Ray Plaza in Colfax, WA where they have resided since.
Laura enjoyed the fine facility and the many friendly people at Hill-Ray.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Ted Horn.
She is survived by husband Elbert Pillers at the home in Colfax, one brother Tom Horn of Sumas, one son Marvin (Annie) Pillers of Palouse and one daughter Mike (Bernice) Manning of West Covina, California, one grand-daughter Mary (Fred) Wendt and two great grandsons, Kyle Wendt and Austin Wendt of Tumwater, Washington A Memorial Service will be held in Colfax at Hill-Ray Plaza on Saturday, April 20 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Whitman County Friends of Hospice or the Whitman County Chaplaincy.
