Forward tweets he picks Cougs

College men’s basketball: Washington State continues to add size to its 2013 recruiting class.

Tanner Lancona, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward from Tesoro High School in Las Flores, Calif., announced on his Twitter page Monday that he has committed to play for coach Ken Bone and WSU next season.

“JUST COMMITTED TO WAZZU #wazzu go Cougs. Thanks to all involved,” Lancona’s tweet read.

Lancona told Scout.com last week that he was deciding between WSU and Clemson, two of several schools that offered scholarships.

He’s rated a 3-star prospect by Scout.

Lancona is the third known player from the class of 2013 to commit to WSU.

Josh Hawkinson, a 6-9 forward from Shoreline, and Ikenna Iroegbu, a 6-2 point guard out of Oak Hill Academy, are the others who have committed.

Montana’s Poole suspended

College football: Montana offensive tackle Trevor Poole was arrested on a felony drug charge during the weekend after a drug task force officer reported seeing him exchange cash for a plastic baggie at a large Halloween party.

Court record say when officers approached Poole, he told them he had two “molly” pills in his pocket that he had purchased that night. “Molly” is the street name for a form of the drug ecstasy.

Poole made an initial appearance in Justice Court on Monday on a charge of criminal possession of dangerous drugs and was released on his own recognizance.

School officials say the 20-year-old sophomore from Ferris has been suspended indefinitely.

The university’s student-athlete code of conduct calls for the dismissal for athletes who are convicted of a felony.
