Reinstated San Francisco outfielder Melky Cabrera has been reinstated by Major League Baseball after serving a 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test, but he will not be part of the Giants’ playoff roster. As of Friday, Cabrera is back on the Giants’ 40-man roster.

Announced Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said his school is cooperating fully with the inquiry into whether any NCAA rules were broken when former player Lance Thomas purchased nearly $100,000 in jewelry during the 2010 national championship season. Thomas, who’s now with the New Orleans Hornets, doesn’t think he violated any NCAA rules when he made the purchase midway through his senior season in December 2009 – just more than three months before the Blue Devils won their fourth national title – and is willing to speak to the NCAA about it.

Demoted The Los Angeles Dodgers offered hitting coach Dave Hansen another position within the organization. The team said that Hansen has not yet decided whether to accept the offer. No replacement has been named.

Banned Canadian women’s soccer star Christine Sinclair received a four-game suspension from FIFA for her conduct following a dramatic semifinal loss to the United States at the London Olympics. The findings of a FIFA disciplinary committee panel said the discipline was for “displaying unsporting behavior towards match officials.”

Suspended Oregon suspended senior defensive tackle Isaac Remington indefinitely after he was cited for driving under the influence. Eugene police say Remington was pulled over early Friday.

Miscalculated An attorney for Arkansas coach John L. Smith said that a computer error in his bankruptcy case is behind what appeared to be a huge jump in his debt. Smith’s initial Chapter 7 filing listed $25.7 million in debt. He later amended that to $40.7 million.

Scheduled The Texas Rangers say reliever Mike Adams will have surgery Thursday for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a numbing sensation that sidelined him the last week of the season.

Extended The Atlanta Braves extended general manager Fran Wren’s contract through 2014 and promoted two other officials. Wren took over as the Braves’ GM after the 2007 season.

Ordered A Los Angeles County judge ordered that Anthony Wayne Smith, a defensive lineman who played for eight years in the 1990s for the NFL’s Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders, must stand trial for four murders.
