Norman was a longtime resident of Spokane.
He was born on March 20, 1918 to the late John and Nikka (Kalhagen) Bye.
He died at Valley Hospital on May 6, 2012.
Norman grew up on his family’s farm in the area known as Spokane Bridge after having spent his first few years on their farm above Liberty Lake.
He was a WWII Veteran having served in the Army Air Force as General George Kenney’s driver in New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan.
He worked for Carnation Milk for 30 years, retiring in 1979.
He had been an officer in the Spokane Federal Credit Union, active in the Teamsters Union Retirees where he once served as president, a member and past treasurer of the Golden Sceptre Mining Co. LTD, and a “retired” treasurer of the annual Otis Orchards High School class reunions.
He enjoyed typing and writing and wrote two autobiographies: “Life in the Hills” and “From the Farm to the Far East”.
Norman is survived by a son, Norman Louis of Spokane Valley; and a brother, John (Rose) of Veradale; plus many nephews and nieces as well as relatives in Norway.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, sisters, Annie (Nelson) and Helen (Bretschneider), and brothers Arne, Olaf and Iver.
There will be a visitation held Monday, May 14th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA.
A Memorial Service held in his honor will be held Tuesday, May 15th at 1:00pm at Valley Assembly Of God, 15618 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA.
A private interment will take place at Pines Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Valley Assembly of God.
