In brief: Public input sought on play equipment for park

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city of Spokane Valley is looking for input on what type of play equipment to install in Terrace View Park at 24th Avenue and Blake Road. A community meeting to discuss the project will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Elementary School, 1512 S. McDonald Road.

Plans call for the new equipment to be installed by September. Call the Parks Department at (509) 720-5400 for more information.

Police, firefighters will face off at Ice-A-Rena

SPOKANE VALLEY – Members of the Spokane Valley Fire Department will be participating in a Guns and Hoses benefit hockey game today at 6 p.m. at the Eagles Ice-A-Rena, 6321 N. Addison St. The game pits area police officers against local firefighters. The event also includes a raffle, chuck a puck competition and beer garden. Tickets are $5; children 12 and younger are admitted free.

The game will benefit Travis Olson, who is undergoing chemotherapy for stage 3 colon cancer, and Josh Pickens, who is recovering from a stroke he suffered after being shot in a road rage incident. Both are former members of the Spokane Young Americans and Spokane Braves hockey teams.
